It is common knowledge that the police are there to protect the citizens when terror strikes.

Well, that is not always the case. At least in the case of one city in Mexico, the entire police force “fled” from the threat of drug cartel gunmen.

The entire 14 police personnel at the Mexican town of Los Ramones resigned on Tuesday after gunmen riddled their headquarters with more than 1,000 bullets and six grenades. The incident did not result in the death or injury to anyone but the action was enough to “kill” all the courage in the entire police force in the town.

Mexico is home to some of the deadliest drug gangs in the world. The country’s fight on drug trafficking has been met with strong violence from the drug cartels and almost 25,000 people have been killed as a result.

The latest attack at the police headquarters happened on Monday night. The unidentified gunmen were engaged in 20 minute shooting spree at the police headquarters and during that time, the building as well as some vehicles of the police service was destroyed as a result.

Mexico is a difficult country to be a police officer. They are often targeted by gunmen but their dangerous job is not compensated by their salary. Over half of the country’s police officers earn $322 or even less than that.
