The police should take full responsibility for the Gayus “escape” last week, Justice and Human Rights Ministry security and order maintenance director Ma’mun said.
“Since Gayus is detained at the police jail he is fully within police jurisdiction. Thus, the police should take the heat for the so-called ‘escape’,” Ma’mun said, as quoted by Tempo news portal on Sunday.
Ma’mun said that ideally all prisons and jails should be under the Justice Ministry jurisdiction, however, due to a serious lack of resources the Criminal Code dictated that daily maintenance for police and prosecutors’ penitentiary facilities would be handed down to the police and the prosecutors.
“The fact that Gayus managed to manipulate his temporary medical check-up leave will be soon investigated. We should immediately arrange a new regulation that addresses this particular area,” he said.
