A man in China dragged his wife to court for “violating his reproductive rights” as she had gone in for abortion in favour of a job promotion.
The 34-year-old man demanded compensation after his wife terminated her pregnancy for a job promotion.
In a court in Hunan province, the man asked his wife: “The child belongs to two persons, how can you abort it behind my back?”
She said she had consulted her husband, who refused, reported China Daily citing Voc.com.cn.
“I am already 31 years old now, and I just wanted to grab the valuable promotion opportunity because I can have a child later, but once I miss the career development opportunity, it would be gone forever,” she was quoted as saying.
The couple was granted a divorce, but the man’s demand for psychological compensation was rejected.
The judge advised that women should take their husband’s feelings into consideration when deciding on abortion.
