The residence of former Sabang area Free Aceh Movement (GAM) commander Izil Azhar, aka Ayah Merin Jumat, was attacked by a grenade early on Friday morning.
No fatalities or injuries were reported in the attack on Jl. Lamrabo No. 7, Gampong Seutui, Baiturrahman, Banda Aceh.
However, grenade shrapnel damaged the house’s ceiling, wall and a car, Serambi Indonesia daily reported.
The daily reported that the Ayah Merin, the owner of the house, had arrived at 3 a.m. following a visit at the residence of Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf in Lampriek, Kuta Alam, Banda Aceh.. The grenade reportedly exploded 18 minutes after his arrival.
Banda Aceh police chief Sr. Comr. Armensyah Thay said the police are still investigating the motive and the suspects behind the attack.
