Alliance for Rabies Control has launched today, September 28, 2010 as World Rabies Day for the first time.

In the world, cases of deaths due to rabies is high. In Asia 50 000 deaths occur per year, India 20000-30000 deaths per year, China's average 2500 deaths per year, Vietnam 9000 deaths per year, the Philippines 200-300 deaths per year and Indonesia during the last 4 years with an average of 143 deaths per year.

Rabies can cause death if not handled properly. First aid can do after being bitten is to wash the wound with soap / detergent using running water for 10-15 minutes, then given disinfectant or antiseptic.
