KFC TO OFFER $20,000 COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THE BEST TWEET

KFC is moving in with the times and they have acknowledged the power of the social networking portals. So they are planning to award a college scholarship of $20,000 to a high school student for the best tweet on the social networking and microblogging site Twitter.

And in keeping with the ways of the online world, the high school seniors can also submit their application via Twitter too. The contest would start on Wednesday and will culminate on the 26th of November. Normally college students are awarded scholarships on the basis of their essays and KFC has turned this criteria on its head by asking students to submit their tweets. And the idea is pretty simple, because KFC would award the scholarship just on the basis of a 140-character tweet on Twitter. In the tweet, the students need to say why they like Colonel Sander’s commitment to education.

The students need to append their tweet with the hastag #KFCScholar for it to qualify for the contest. And the winner of the $20,000 would be announced on the 1st of December. The winner of the contest would get $5,000 for 4 years.

“It’s how this generation communicates. It’s a generation used to instant messaging and immediate gratification,” according to John Cywinski, who is KFC’s marketing chief.
