The Pentagon said a U.S. Predator drone launched the first strike against government targets in Libya on Saturday.

The airstrike took place in early afternoon local time, the Pentagon said without notifying the exact targets of the strike.

The raid came less than two days after U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said that President Barack Obama had approved the use of armed Predator drones in the military mission in Libya, and that the unmanned aerial vehicles could provide unique capabilities to the NATO forces operating in the Northern African country.
