Solid Rock Chapel is determined to have the Jesus Christ statue back. The church unveiled a miniature of the new statue to its congregation on Sunday and officials at the church claim that the congregation loved the new statue. They hope that the general public will love the statue as well when it is eventually unveiled by the end of 2011.
The new statue portrays Jesus with an open arm will replace the old Jesus statue that was grazed to the ground by a fire that is believed was caused by lightening. The incident that happened on June 14 this year completely destroyed the “King of Kings” statue. The new statue, which is called “Come Unto Me”, will be built by artists from Cincinnati. It will stand at a height of 51-foot and the artists revealed that they are excited by the challenge that has been presented to them by the church.
One of the artists, Carter said that, “We liked the design. Also, the local aspect of it gives us an opportunity to review their work in progress so if there needs to be minor tweaks, we can do that”.
