STUDY ON 'HOW MUCH SLEEP DO YOU REALLY NEED' MIGHT SHOCK YOU

When it comes to sleep, it has often been debated about the actual number of hours that the body requires.

aHowever several studies have revealed that babies and children require not less than 8 hours daily. Teenagers are believed to need around the same number but the exact number of hours that a full grown adult needs has often been debated.

While most people believe that less sleep is associated with some deadly conditions in the body, other researchers and scientists believe that sleep is only good for the brain.

The human brain has three main parts; the cortex, the front-brain and the hindbrain. The mid-brain and hind-brain are involved in what we call involuntary actions like breathing, pulse, blood pressure and other things. They keep working when you are sleeping or fully awake and as such do not need any form of rest.

However the cortex of the brain does. It is involved in much more complex activity of the brain like thinking, memory and others. That part of the brain does not work when you are sleeping and when the body is deprived of enough sleep; the cortex’s function is affected.

As a result, the number of hours that you need to rest depends primarily on the individual but it should not be too small that it affects the brain function.
