A four-year-old boy in Britain has been served notice by his local council not to make noise and play quietly.

Parents Simon and Pippa Landsell were served the notice by environmental health officials who said they received a complaint about their son Alfie, The Sun reported.

They warned the parents that if they got any more complaints they would send digital monitoring gear to check how loud Alfie was while playing.

“Failure to comply can lead on conviction to a fine, not exceeding 5,000 pounds, together with a daily fine of up to 500 pounds for each day the nuisance continues,” the notice said.

Simon Landsell, a 35-year-old engineer, of East Yorkshire, said: “I’m fuming. Alfie’s just a normal four-year-old. We’ve tried to explain the letter, but he doesn’t really understand. Surely a child is allowed to make a bit of noise in his own garden? I can’t believe they took this seriously.”

His wife Pippa, 31, said: “It’s pathetic. What am I meant to do, gag him and put him in his room?”
