Facebook - the extremely popular social networking site is hogging headlines again and this time it is because of its CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The young CEO has received letters from 2 Congressmen Joe Barton and Edward Markey and they have asked him to explain the latest user privacy policies adopted by Facebook. In recent past Facebook allowed the advertisers access to the personal information of its users with some restrictions and terms. This obviously did not go down well with some users and Facebook had to withdraw the feature.
Facebook on its part is keen on allowing the companies to offer ads and offers on its network and build a relation with its users. Needless to say it gets more traffic and popularity in the process. Facebook insists it will revolutionize e commerce and give the users the chance to get updated on special promotional deals and discounts on their favorite brands. The two Congressmen also want to know why Facebook rolled back the feature after offering it. They also want to know the impact of this service on the teens who use Facebook. The Facebook team in its response wrote ” we believe there is tremendous value in giving people the freedom and control to take information they put on Facebook with them to other Web sites”.
Facebook also says they came up with the option after analyzing various aspects of it with web privacy veterans. The users are allowed full control over their personal data that they want to share with advertisers. However, there is no denying the fat that company has faced the flak of the users for its privacy policy several times.
