Mexican Judicial Police have found 18 bodies in the north of the country, spokesman for the State Attorney's office (PGJE) Arturo Sandoval said on Monday.
Sandoval said that the 11 secret graves containing the bodies were found last Saturday in Puerto Palomas, near Ciudad Juarez, on the border with the United States.
The federal and state agents carried out investigations to see if there were more bodies in the area. Authorities consider this region to be the most violent in Mexico.
Sandoval said the victim's identities remain unknown and there is no information about whether or not the victims belonged to a drug cartel in the area.
According to a recent count by local media, at least 7,000 people have died in 2010 in a wave of violence that authorities attribute to organized crime in Mexico.
