Several people in the affected area have been trapped in their cars and homes. The police have described the floods as a “major incident” in the country. The floods have left parts of St. Austell and St. Blazey impassable in the country. Some victims of the flood recalled their experiences to the press.
Barry Green who owns a bakery in Lostwithiel said that, “One minute I was making bread, the next I was wading waist high through muddy water. We’ve had people coming in to help but it’s pretty much destroyed the shop”. The police have moved in to rescue those that have been trapped by the floods.
No casualties have been reported and police say they two search-and-rescue helicopters have been sent to the affected areas. In some places, water levels as high as 1.5 meters have been reported. The rail services to Cornwall have all been suspended due to the floods.
