The FDA glare on alcoholic drinks with strong caffeine content has resulted in Four Loko getting banned in four states of USA. The latest update is that Ohio is following suit. The state leaders in Ohio have agreed that they would not allow the makers of both Joose and Four Loko to sell and distribute their products in the state. Ohio Department of Commerce spokesperson Cara Keithley said that the stores can clear their existing stock but they are not permitted to get fresh stocks. In the last few months the demand for Four Loko drinks shot up as it has been reported. The ban on sale of Four Loko was imposed by both Division of Liquor Control in Ohio and the Ohio Department of Commerce. The drink is not permitted in states like Washington, Utah, Oklahoma and Michigan.

Kimberly Zurz the director of Ohio Department of Commerce said that he believes ” those products pose a significant threat to the safety and health of Ohio consumers”. The health researchers are up in arms against the drink as it is high in caffeine and alcohol. They are of the opinion the students who love the drink for its low cost often fail to understand its impact on their health. On Wednesday the Food and Drug Administration warned the makers of such drinks in USA and it targeted seven such brands. It asked these brands sternly to make necessary changes in the formula of these drinks.
Four Loko has agreed to take out Caffeine from the formula of the drinks. Phusion Projects which is the owner of the brand said that it thinks a mix of caffeine and alcohol is not unhealthy but nevertheless it will adhere to the FDA directive.
