Apple has released its latest update of iTunes its flagship media player. However, iTunes 10.1 does not look much different from the earlier versions. It can be downloaded from the site of Apple. The Mac owners however can also upgrade their version of iTunes from Software Update menu. Possibly the biggest new feature of the new version of iTunes is the compatibility with iOS 4.2. The iOS 4.2 is going to be released on Nov 24th according to the news. Apple is trying to iron out some WiFi related glitches in the OS. As was the case with the earlier versions of iTunes, the new version is also a resource hog and the users with old Windows based PCs will feel system slowdown while running iTunes 10.1. It supports Windows XP, Vista and 7 in both 32 and 64 bit editions.
The minimum requirement for running iTunes 10.1 under Windows is a PC with a 1GHz ZMD or Intel CPU. For playing HD video however a 2 GHz dual core PC is required. Ping which is used for getting access to new music by means of friends can now be disabled as well as hidden in this version. The new iTunes comes with AirPlay support that enables wireless streaming of video to Apple TV.
Apple has also said that the new version of iTunes scores better on stability. The iPod and iPad users however will not get the new features enabled before they install the much awaited iOS4.2. The update is very new so it is too early to say if the new version offers significant advantage over the earlier versions.
