The Indonesia HKBP Church said that they will be struggling to establish a house of worship in Ciketing Asem, Mustika Jaya, Bekasi, Indonesia, although the Bekasi City Government has forbid. On the basis of the reasons there is no discrimination in worship.
"To build a house of worship is our struggle, at any place", Said Ramlan Hutahayan, the secretary general of HKBP, in front of 200 congregation, who gathered to worship in a government sealed house church in Bekasi this morning.
Ramlan continued, "No matter we are only a few or many, it is our right to build a house of worship and gathered as one family."
The HKBP Church advocate, Saor Siagian, said, " one of the solution that Bekasi city government offered, is for we to used the OPP building for sunday morning worship activity, that does not guarantee that the HKBP Church will be able to use that location until the permanent church building is completed or even just to wait the church construction permits. "We had a bad experience of the other churches around," he said.
According to Saor, the other five churches facing similar problems with HKBP Ciketing. One of them also offered the use of a government building. Nevertheless, only a month, the building was prompted again by the government because it will be used for other purposes. "While licensing is administered to five years there is no clarity," he said.
This morning on the sunday worship service, about 700 security officers combination of Jakarta Region Police, Bekasi Metropolitan Police, Civil Service Police Unit, stationed at two locations. The Bekasi City government have planned to do forced evacuation, but it canceled due to prolonged negotiations until the service was over. Seven buses have parked at the worship location to be used to forced evacuated of the HKBP congregation, if they insist to conduct the sunday morning worship in Ciketing, Bekasi.
