WHITE iPHONE 4: IT'S NOT ONLY THE COLOR THAT'S CHANGED

The white iPhone 4 just can't catch a break. While the device is finally available to consumers after months of waiting, Engadget reports that the white iPhone 4 is thicker than its black brethren.

Unfortunately, the larger plastic border seems to create enough of a size difference -- TiPb measures it at roughly 0.2mm thicker -- that users are reportedly having trouble fitting some cases on the device. It might not seem like a notable difference, but case makers have been building cases to Apple's specs in order to get a snug fit.

Engadget's test revealed "an Incase slider that fits a black iPhone 4 just fine has to be forced into place on the new white model," and TiPb found some cases that fit perfectly on the black iPhone 4 were "just a tiny bit too tight" on the white one.

Engadget's Thomas Ricker explains the problem consumers and case manufacturers face with a thicker device:

In the end, we have what looks to be four different size / button configurations that must be considered when purchasing a shrink-wrapped case for your white iPhone 4, black iPhone 4, white Verizon iPhone 4, or black Verizon iPhone 4. Good luck with that.
