Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s ratings have halved to 31 percent, since the time he was elected, over multiple legal and sex scandals.

A poll of 1,000 people by the IPR conducted between April 14 and April 16 has revealed that the latest rating is less that 33 percent in March and 35 percent in February. His ratings were at more than 60 percent after he was re-elected in 2008.

Berlusconi is currently facing trial on charges of having sex with an under age sex worker and then abusing his power by trying to cover up the alleged crime.

“The government and the parties supporting it … appear to be under pressure because of the issues at the centre of the political struggle in recent weeks, like Libya and the handling of Tunisian migrants,” IPR said in a statement.

Berlusconi’s ratings have been “in an almost constant descent over the past two years…. The head of the government has lost exactly half of his popularity rating from its peak of 62 per cent in October 2008,” it added.

The 74-year-old Prime Minister denies all charges against him.
