Mount Bromo volcano in East Java erupted 18 times on Wednesday, while nearby Cemoro village was covered in ash, according to the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG).
Lava was near the surface of Bromo’s caldera, explosions could clearly be heard and the volcano spewed flaming ejecta to a height of 300 meters according to a report from a PVMBG observation post, as reported by tempointeraktif.com.
PVMBG volcanologist Hendrastyo said that the eruptions, which started late last year, would continue for the next several months.
The center previously established a two-kilometer exclusion zone around the volcano.
