Israel says its navy has intercepted a ship carrying a large delivery of weapons off the country's Mediterranean coast.

The military says the ship originated in Turkey and was bound for Egypt. But it gave no details on what types of arms were on board or for whom the delivery was bound.

In the past, Israel has accused Hamas militants of shipping arms through Egypt. The military says the ship is German-owned and operated by a French shipping company.

It says Tuesday's interception occurred about 200 miles (320km) off its Mediterranean coast.
