Philippine police are investigating the gangland-style killings of two car dealers, who were separately shot in the head then burned in attacks that shocked many in this already crime-weary country.

Police chief superintendent Benito Estipona says the charred body of Venson Evangelista was and identified by police on Tuesday, a few days after they recovered the burned remains of another car dealer, Emerson Lozano, and his driver north of Manila.

Mr Estipona says both of the businessmen went missing after setting out to meet prospective car buyers, adding that Lozano and Evangelista may have been killed by the same group of gunmen.

President Benigno Aquino III has assured a jittery public that police are working to identify and capture the killers.
