A latest survey based on employee reviews showed on Wednesday that Facebook ranks first among the 50 best places to work in 2011 in the United States.

According to the Annual Employees' Choice Awards conducted by Glassdoor.com, Facebook brings in a 4.6 company rating and CEO Mark Zuckerberg receives a 96-percent approval rating. The Silicon Valley powerhouse also gets high ratings in areas like compensation and satisfaction, employee morale and work/life balance.

Following Facebook is last year's top best place to work, Southwest Airlines, which received a 4.4 company rating.

Other Silicon Valley companies on the top 50 list include Shutterfly (14), Apple (20), Google (30), Adobe (39), Salesforce. com (41), and Intel (45).

Yahoo, which just made a 4-percent cut of workforce on Monday, is absent from the list. According to the survey, the company's CEO, Carol Bartz, has a 56-percent employee approval rating compared with 97 percent for Steve Jobs at Apple and 96 percent for Eric Schmidt at Google.

A company has to have 25 or more anonymous employee reviews submitted to Glassdoor over the past 12 months to qualify for a ranking that rate eight aspects, from "fairness & respect" to " recognition & feedback."

Also on Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg is named Time's "Person of the Year" for 2010.
