Moderate earthquakes have struck off two different coasts of Indonesia. There were no reports of damage or injury in either, but one sent hundreds of residents fleeing their homes.
The US Geological Survey said a 5.8-magnitude quake hit about 140km from Yogyakarta, a city still traumatised by a 2006 temblor that killed 5,700. Many residents ran from their homes on Tuesday.
Recently, the city has also been showered by ash from the Mount Merapi volcano, which has killed more than 380 people since October.
Later, a 5.7-magnitude quake was recorded off Sumatra island, about 315km south-east of Banda Aceh.
Indonesia is located on the Pacific 'Ring of Fire,' an arc of volcanos and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin.
