Several international airlines canceled flights to Jakarta  today, Indonesia's capital, due to the risk posed by clouds of ash  spewed out by an active volcano, officials said. 
Yesterday, a new  eruption of Mount Merapi, located in central Java island, killing at  least 78 people, bringing to 138 the number killed by the volcano over  the past ten days.
Among the companies that have canceled flights to the  Indonesian capital are Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Japan  Airlines, Lufthansa, Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia. 
Domestic flights  were not affected, except for those bound for Yogyakarta, the nearest  town to the volcano and where the airport was closed yesterday.
