A chimpanzee which weighed at least 300 pounds recently reeked havoc in Kansas City was apparently the pet of a nearby citizen of the Missouri town which had broken out of it’s home and had a fit, even smashing the window of a police car.
The police department received a call at around lunchtime to the are of 77th and Indiana where the primate was seen wandering around in the neighborhood. According to local ‘NBC Action News’, the chimp is a pet named ‘Sue’, which has been seen in the neighborhood several times before.
Sue tried to open the front door of a house, and banged on the shutters and windows of homes in the area. She broke the window of a police car, after attacking the car. It also jumped on at least one other car.
The owner showed up eventually and managed to coax Sue into a cage where the chimp was taken “into custody” and the owner was cited for owning a dangerous animal.
Kansas City, Oct 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An escaped chimpanzee used his freedom to cause mayhem in Kansas City.
The animal that weighs some 300 pounds added a police car’s window to its list of damaged things on Wednesday.
The police said the primate escaped from its owner. They say a local kept the animal as a pet until it escaped. Once the animal got out, it tried to enter neighbor’s homes and cars.
Officers say they got a call from a member of the public that a chimpanzee was on a loose near the Kansas City Zoo.
When officers responded to the call, they found the animal, which is called, Suekko on top of a tree and initial attempt to sedate the animal with tranquilizers failed.
The animal then jumped onto a police car and smashed the passenger’s side window, breaking it in the process. After the animal fled from the scene, the police were ready to shoot and killed the creature if it approached any member of the public.
That however was not necessary because the owner of the chimpanzee managed to coax the animal back to its cage.
The owner has however fallen foul of the law in the city because chimps are prohibited in the city, whether caged or not. Police have cited him with having dangerous animals within city limits.
