The transformation of the world to a "global village," the Internet, as well as additional available technology to the public has made terrorism more lethal in the 21st century, head of the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) Yuval Diskin said Monday.
Speaking at the first Israeli homeland security international conference, Diskin said that Google Earth, the internet, and applications that can be downloaded to Apple's iPhone were available for terrorists to use and obtain intelligence that they could not receive before.

"The terrorist threat in the future has become more complex," Diskin said. "The world has turned into a 'global village' and everything is available to everyone. The world is smaller and broader and technology can cross continents."
Diskin said that cyber warfare is the primary threat to Israel and that attacks can be carried out online that could cause great economic damage as well as be costly to human life. He also warned that al-Qaida terrorists use chat rooms on the internet to indoctrinate additional operators and instruct them how to perpetuate terrorist attacks.
He said that the 21st century could be best characterized by the fact that terrorists do not feel limited and are ready to carry out "mega terror attacks."
"The availability of weaponry serves terrorism, everything is more available including advanced explosives, UAVs, anti-tank missiles, anti-aircraft missiles and rockets of different ranges," Diskin said.
