A bus on its way back from a sports competition careened off a bridge in southeastern Brazil Sunday, killing 11 people and injuring 22 others, authorities said.

The Brazilian newspaper Estado de Sao Paulo reported the bus left the bridge spanning the Aracuai River in the Jequitinhonha Valley region and plunged about 100 feet into a ravine.

The passengers were youths with special needs who had competed in the sports event and members of a support group who were returning to Jaipur when the mishap occurred, the newspaper said.
