Former US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has spoken about a scary moment at the White House shortly after the 9/11 attacks in the United States that left almost 3,000 people dead.

During an interview with ABC News, Rice revealed that there was a moment when they were told that the White House had been poisoned. She narrated that top officials of the Bush administration were in Shanghai during the AIPEC summit shortly after the attacks.

She said they had a secure video conference with then Vice President Dick Cheney. She revealed that, “The Vice President came on the screen and said that the White House detectors have detected botulinum toxin, and we were all– those of who exposed were going to die.”

Botulinum is a very deathly toxin and it has the capability to kill within hours. According to Rice, Bush directed her to get to the bottom of the issue. Rice was the National Security Advisor when the incident happened.

Sample of the suspected substance was taken to the lab and tested on mice. When the results came in, it turned out that it was a false alarm.

Rice said the waiting was intense for the team in Shanghai because it was more than 24 hours before they got the results.
