Typhoon Roke which struck the Japanese coast on Wednesday is making its way to the disaster zone of the country. Concerns have been raised that the storm could wash radioactive materials into the seas which will bring far-reaching consequences to the country and the world.

The Fukushima prefecture is right in the path of the storm which is currently traveling at a top speed of 130mph. Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) which takes care of the nuclear power plants in the country including the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant said they have made the necessary arrangements to prevent further damage to the plant and the environment when the storm strike the area.

A spokesperson of Tepco Junichi Matsumoto assured that, “We expect to be able to withstand even if water levels rise suddenly.”

Matsumoto though cautioned that there are some concerns which still needs to be addressed. He said that, “The biggest cause for concern is the rise of water levels in the turbine buildings.”

At least 4 people have been killed by the Roke by the storm has so far not been as deadly as it was initially feared. 330,000 people have been warned to move because they are in the path of the storm. More than 1 million people were initially warned but the warning has been revised.
