Floods and landslides triggered by torrential rains in south China have affected 1.57 million people, officials said Friday.

The National Commission for Disaster Reduction said heavy rains since Monday in Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces and the autonomous region of Tibet have left six people dead, Xinhua reported.

The disasters also resulted in an economic loss of 350 million yuan (about $54 million), it said.

The ministry of civil affairs and the ministry of finance Friday allocated 50 million yuan to assist people in flooded areas in Sichuan and Shaanxi.
