EYE TEST MAY HELP TO DETECT ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Scientists say they are investigating a new simple eye test which promises to provide a way to detect Alzheimer’s disease. The approach has been carried out on some people and the scientists say the results are encouraging.

Similar researches are being carried out by scientists all over the world. It is known that Alzheimer’s disease affects the brain and the eye. During the meeting of the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in France on Sunday, two of such studies which are being carried out in the United States and Australia were presented.

Though the studies have so far being carried out on small number of people, the scientific community is excited because the work has the prospect to help detect the disease much earlier. Alzheimer’s disease is a major concern for scientists all over the world because it affects about 35 million worldwide. The condition greatly affects the way of life of people because it has not cure. The only remedy is medication which brings down the symptoms.

In the study which was carried out in Australia, the researchers reported that patients who have Alzheimer’s had certain blood vessels in the retina which had the width different from those who did not have the disease. The scientists say they will carry similar tests on large number of participants to determine the accuracy of the test.
