Two police officers died and one was in critical condition after being shot while guarding a branch of Bank Central Asia in Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Wednesday.
Sec. Brig. Januar Yudhistira Pranata, shot in the head and chest, and Sec. Brig. Andi Irbar Prawira, shot in the chest, were pronounced dead. Sec. Brig. Deddy Edward Undusten is being treated in the Bhayangkara Police hospital after being shot in the right thigh and buttocks.
“Ibrar and Yudhistira’s remains are undergoing autopsies, and Dedy is in intensive care,” Central Sulawesi Police spokesperson Adj. Sr. Comr. Soemarno said as quoted by Tempointeraktif.com.
Rony, a resident near the scene, said he heard five gunshots, and the perpetrator was wearing a helmet and a scarf. A bank customer witnessed two men leaving on a big motorcycle a few moments after the gunshots.
Soemarno said that there were as many as four perpetrators, and the shots were fired using a long-barreled weapon.
“The perpetrator made off with one of the officers’ P2 weapons,” he said, referring to the Indonesian-made pistol.
