Professor William Kielhorn of LeTourneau University in Longview was not ready to let anything spoil his perfect attendance record. The 79-year-old is in hospital after being diagnosed with cancer. He lectured from his hospital bed at the Good Shepherd Medical Center using teleconferencing.
The professor was just a day short in attending every class for 45 years. He told reporters that he was determined to ensure that the record was not compromised. He has not missed a lecture throughout the period.
ABC News reported that Kielhorn has been diagnosed with colon cancer and he is currently undergoing chemotherapy. He has reached the fourth stage of the treatment but the last procedure had some complications resulting in the hospitalization of Kielhorn.
Kielhorn maintains that his determination to present himself everyday for lessons is based on the fact that students have paid to be taught and that is what he intends to do.
He said that, “I felt the students had paid for the courses and the least I could do was show up and teach.”
Kielhorn completed his 45-year record on Thursday with the help of his daughter and granddaughter who helped install the teleconferencing equipments.
