SON HACKED MOTHER TO DEATH WITH MACHETE 'OVER INHERITANCE ROW'

A jealous son hacked his mother to death with a machete because he feared he would not inherit her wealth after she found a new husband, a court heard yesterday.

Usman Shahzad, 21, and a 16-year-old boy launched a "remorseless, merciless" attack on businesswoman Assia Shahzad at her home after a furious row over her love life.

The pair allegedly rained down blows on the 40-year-old with knives and a shower pole, causing 84 separate injuries, while playing rap music at high volume to muffle her screams.

Jurors were warned they had to “have the stomach” to cope with the “harrowing” evidence in the case before they were shown images of Mrs Shahzad’s blood-splattered home following the attack.

They were told how the mother-of-three was chased around the large detached property in Aylesbury, Bucks, as her son and the boy carried out the "prolonged and horrifically bloody" murder.

Her hands were almost severed by the severity of the blows as she fought to defend herself, the court heard.

Prosecuting, Ben Gumpert said: “There had been bad feeling between Assia Shahzad and Usman Shahzad that may have been caused by the fact Assia Shahzad had found a new husband in Pakistan.

"Usman Shahzad feared a hoped-for financial inheritance was no longer secure as a result of the marriage."

The court heard that Mrs Shahzad had a heated argument with her son at her parents home in Aylesbury on October 9 before she returned to her house, which she shared with several lodgers and her disabled son Lookman.

Later that day, Shahzad was seen arriving at the house by taxi moments before he and the boy unleashed the savage attack.

Mr Gumpert said: “He (Usman) did cause horrendous injuries to his mother's head and hands as she was trying to protect herself.

"It seems likely he started his remorseless attack on her upstairs and that he followed her or chased her through the first bedroom, into the second bedroom and from there through into the en suite bathroom."

He warned the jury: "You must prepare to steel yourself for some very distressing images," as the court was shown a scene reminiscent of a horror film, showing the bathroom floor drenched in blood.

"He struck her with a machete and a pole from the shower. Evidence suggests he hit her once she was upright, defending herself but many, many times after she had fallen to the floor,” he added.

Lodgers, who had heard the commotion, called emergency services, who rushed to the property to find Mrs Shahzad fighting for life.

Mr Gumpert said: "After the police had broken down the door they found Usman standing on his mother's neck as she bled to death at his feet."

He said a pathologist found massive damage to Mrs Shahzad's head, including two skull fractures and one blade wound which entered the skull.

Parts of several fingers had been cut off in her bid to defend herself. "Indeed her hands were almost severed," said Mr Gumpert

Shahzad, of Havelock Street, Aylesbury, yesterday pleaded guilty to the murder moments before his trial was due to begin. He was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced at a later date.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, denies murder.

Jurors were told there was no direct evidence that the boy had taken part in the attack.

But Mr Gumpert said the fact that his shirt was covered in Mrs Shahzad’s blood, that buttons matching his clothing were found in her home and that a second knife was used suggested his involvement.

"Why two knives, why two poles – if only one person was involved?" he asked, adding: "Even if you reach the conclusion he could not have been involved in the violence, the prosecution submit he was complicit."

The trial at Aylesbury Crown Court, sitting at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court, continues.
