Manchester United saw off Chelsea 2-1 at Old Trafford on Tuesday, grabbing a UEFA Champions League semifinal berth in 3-1 on aggregate.
United led 1-0 from the first leg at Stamford Bridge and Wayne Rooney's away goal made them favourites to advance the Champions Leauge semifinals for the seventh time and Javier Hernandez pushed the Red Devils forward with a close range shot in the 43rd minute before Park Ji Sung cancelled out Didier Drogba's score in the second half.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti insisted to make Fernando Torres start in the lineup, but the British record 50 million pounds capture from Liverpool still failed to score his first goal for the London club since January before being replaced by Drogba in the second half.
The Ivorian striker Drogba played much more impressively than the struggling Spaniard, but Chelsea suffered a setback when Brazilian midfielder Ramires received a second yellow card in the 70th minute.
Drogba managed to pulled one back for the Blues but the 10-men Chelsea's vague hope lasted even less than one minute as South Korean Park Ji Sung fired home for the hosts in the 77th minute.
Man. United will wait for the winner between Inter Milan and Schalke 04 on Wednesday. The defending champions Inter were defeated 5-2 by their German opponents at home in the first leg.
