German police said that they found suspected three explosive devices outside the stadium of football club Borussia Dortmund on Thursday, two days after arresting a 25-year-old man suspect of planning the attack.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the club said three suspected explosive devices were discovered and then defused by police in a parking lot, hundreds of meters from the Dortmund stadium. Police later found another three explosive devices in the suspect's apartment.
"A forensic investigation is being carried out to determine whether the suspect objects were explosives as well as to identify the possible uses of the chemicals that were found," BKA said in a statement.
The BKA said the suspect, a German, was taken into custody on Tuesday in Cologne, as police found the man was related to an e- mailed anonymous tip received by German embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan in February, which warned that Germany was to face two terror attacks.
The suspect, whose name wasn't released at the moment, has admitted that he was the tip sender and put those devices near the stadium, police said.
Authorities added that the detained man was also suspected of blackmailing a German private company in 2010, according to a linguistic analysis of received e-mails.
A spokesman for German Interior Ministry said that the suspect was "apparently" acting on his own with a criminal motivation and "there is no indication of any links to terror or Islamic organizations."
"Based on early assessments, there was no acute danger to the public," he added.
Police said it was still unclear whether the suspect intended to attack the stadium on Saturday, when Dortmund is due to play third-placed Hanover at home in front of around 80,000 fans.
Dortmund, currently in top position in Germany's top football division, or the Bundesliga, said that they will intensify the security measures and the match will be held on schedule.
