Security checks at US airports are being reviewed, after the video of a six-year-old being given a thorough pat down provoked anger.
The girl from Kentucky was returning from holiday with her family, when an officer from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) performed the frisk.
Her angry parents filmed as the worker checked the girl's chest, back and waistband, before posting the video on YouTube.
The girl's mother Selena Drexel told ABC News: "We struggle to teach our kids to protect themselves, to say 'no, it's not OK to touch (me) in this way, in this area.
"Yet here we are saying it's OK for these people to touch others."
It is not the first time a disgruntled passenger has complained about the intrusiveness of TSA searches - and recorded their experience.
Last November, 31-year-old software programmer John Tyner uploaded a mobile phone video in which he told a screener at San Diego airport: "If you touch my junk, I'll have you arrested."
At the moment all passengers, whatever their age can be subjected to the same kind of 'enhanced security procedure'.
The TSA confirmed to Sky News that Selena's experience could be examined as part of a review of the 'one-size fits all' policy.
Since September last year the federal agency has been looking at what it calls "low risk populations" such as children, and whether they should be treated differently.
The statement from the federal agency hinted that significant changes could be announced later this year while "maintaining a high level of security".
The TSA said the officer followed guidelines, but the chairman of the House sub-committee that examines national security issues, Jason Chaffetz, said it warranted further review.
"This is another example of the mistreatment of an innocent American at the hands of the TSA," he said.
"I am so furious with them I can't even see straight."
