HEAVY RAIN, STRONG WIND HIT CAIRO

A sudden rain shower in the morning got in the way of Khaled Hussein's plan to hang out with his friends after Friday prayers.

Hussein is among a lot of Egyptians who have been taken aback by the unusual change in the weather on Friday, although the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) have forecast that a bad weather was going to hit the country on the first day of weekend.

"The weather is expected to be unstable. There are low and medium clouds, coupled with heavy rains in south and east Egypt, and Cairo," the EMA said on its website.

For Egyptians, heavy rain means difficult traffic especially in heavily populated neighborhoods as congestion are expected to hit crowded streets where hundreds are jostling to get through even in normal weather.

Worse still, heavy rains could lead to dozens of road accidents in Egypt as some of the cars have broken windscreen wipers.
