The South Korean government on Wednesday confirmed a bird flu outbreak in a southwest region that serves as a main habitat for migratory birds.
The Ministry of Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said avian influenza virus was detected in wild birds on Mangyeong River, located in Iksan, North Jeolla Province.
The ministry conducted an emergency disinfection of the area around the river while designating an area within a 10-kilometer radius from the site of the outbreak as a management zone. There are 219 chicken farms and 13 duck farms within the management zone, according to government figures
