Pop idol Carrie Underwood became the top winner at the inaugural American Country Awards held Monday evening in Las Vegas, Nevada, walking away with six awards including the ever-important artist of the year.
This is the second major honor the actress has won in eight months after she prevailed at the 45th Academy of Country Music Awards held in the same venue -- MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada in April.
She was also honored with female artist, album(Play On), female artist single("Cowboy Casanova"), touring deadline package("Play On Tour") and female Music Video("Cowboy Casanova").
Lady Antebellum, the trio that led the field with a whopping seven nods,followed Underwood with four awards including group artist, group single, group music video and single of the year.
Easton Corbin, who tied the lead with Lady Antebellum at the nomination process, ended in three wins including breakthrough artist, breakthrough artist single and breakthrough artist music video.
Male artist of the year was conferred on Brad Paisley.
The newly-created country music awards show honors country music artists in music, video, and touring categories. The winners were entirely voted on by fans on the internet.
It is the fourth major-awards show completely dedicated to the country music industry following Country Music Association Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, and the Country Music Television Music Awards.
