A great spectacle was created when a military aircraft was engulfed in a “ball” of birds. It was not immediately clear what led to the spectacle because the birds seemed to have acted almost instantly. However some believe that the animals were startled by the sound of the craft.
The plane was preparing to land at the runway at the Fort Smith Regional Airport in Arkansas. The whole episode was captured by Kala Larsen who happened to be driving past the airport when the incident happened. The image shows the probably thousands of birds swarming the mid-section of the plane as it tries to land at the airport. Kala said that. “They all started to fly towards the plane like a big ball. I realized something strange was going on”.
Fortunately the plane managed to land safely after the incident. It was a dangerous incident because in some cases, the collision between a plane and a bird can cause an accident. Mostly when the birds are this many, they can clog the engine and cause the engine to fail, thereby causing a plane crash. That has happened before and it is estimated that about 200 people have been killed over the past 20 years.
