The Human Genome Sciences is close to having their drug, Benlyst approved by the FDA. The drug cleared a major hurdle in its quest to have the drug approved for sale on the United States market.
An FDA panel agreed that the drug substantially relieves pains caused by lupus. About ninety percent of all lupus sufferers in the United States are women. Though the condition has been around for half a century, no drug has been able to take most of the symptoms that sufferers endure when they have the condition.
With that hurdle cleared, Benlyst now has a favorable chance of getting to the market pretty soon. However a number of tests need to be carried out before the drug is eventually approved. However getting the drug approved for sale will not come easy because of the drug’s potentially fatal side effects. During the panel approval, most of the panel members argued that the reduction of pains by the drug did not warrant the side effects of the drug. That however failed to block the approval of the drug but it might not survive when the drug have to eventually to approved for the US market.
