A Chinese drunk-driver was sentenced to death after being convicted of killing two people and injuring seven, state media reported on Thursday.
State-run Xinhua news agency said Dong Fei, 33, was sentenced in the eastern province of Anhui, in the second death sentence reported in the country for drunk-drivers involved in fatal car crashes.
Dong was convicted of endangering public safety after hitting 11 people in Fuyang City in March.
According to a statement issued by the Fuyang Intermediate People’s Court, Dong first hit a woman, but he left the scene and turned off the headlights. He later hit 10 more pedestrians before hitting a truck.
The court also ruled that victims should get 1.54 million yuan ($232,000) in compensation from Dong’s family.
Dong said he would appeal.
Last year, Sun Weiming was also sentenced to death in the city of Sichuan after being convicted of killing four people. Sun first scraped a car and, in a bid to escape, drove his vehicle on to the other side of the road and crashed into four oncoming vehicles.
Sun won his appeal and his sentence was reduced to life in prison.
