BEE SWARM ON AIRPLANE WING DELAYS FLIGHT

A flight from Port Blair was delayed for over half an hour after a swarm of over ten thousand honey bees decided to use the wings of the Kingfisher aircraft as their very own landing pad.
The passengers on board the plane quickly disembarked as fire crews were called into to rid the wing of the insects. They began to spray water at the bees who soon began to fly away.
An airline official shared with the Times of India, “We had to close the terminal doors and told airlines not to open doors of flights that had just arrived to prevent the bees from harming passengers. Shuttle buses were not used and non-aerobridge boarding was suspended for some time from 10:30am [local time] onwards, when the water jets were being used to chase the bees away. As soon as the water hit them they began flying away. But we waited for a while to ensure they do not come back.”
The same airport had a similar situation about eighteen months ago, when a swarm of flies landed on the nose of an Air India plane, which caused the flight to be delayed.
